Kekocada

Kekocada is a 2D platformer developed during the "Maratona de Inovação Games" Game Jam. The theme was "becoming a hero". It follows the young brazilian witch, Keko, who's gathering ingredients to cook, and sell, her magical sweets.

My Experience

This was my first game project and my first game jam. Working with a tight schedule, one of my main priorities was to make sure our team (five people) had clear communication and knew what each member was working on.

 

I was responsible for coordinating the separations for the three stages of the game and defining the gameplay mechanics for each of them, as well as their level design. We needed the mechanics to imbue the steps that a business owner goes through, so the levels mimic the idea of: pre-production, production, and sales.

We also wanted to ensure a game that could be fully experienced within a couple of minutes, so we would able to test out and make any iterations necessary within the time limit.

Thanks to this project I was able to have hands-on experience as a level designer, and work together with the programmers to create an AI for the enemies, as well as directly build the level inside the engine.
